Puyallup has gone 9-1 against Rogers recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Vikings will square off against the Rams at 7:00 p.m. Puyallup is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
On Monday, Puyallup didn't have quite enough to beat Sumner and fell 3-1. The Vikings have struggled against the Spartans recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.
Puyallup saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jenny Tuivaiave, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.
Meanwhile, Rogers came tearing into Monday's matchup with 12 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Wolves get on the board and left with a 10-0 victory. The Rams might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six contests by nine runs or more this season.
Sierra Murray was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Payton Walling, who went 2-for-4 with one home run. Another player making a difference was Kelsey Vernon, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one run.
Rogers was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .394. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as South Kitsap only posted a batting average of .053.
Rogers' win was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 14-1. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Puyallup, their loss dropped their record down to 8-5.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Puyallup has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Rogers struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 9.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Puyallup beat Rogers 6-3 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Vikings since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
