Baseball Game Preview: Easley Green Wave vs. Mauldin Mavericks

The Easley Green Wave will head out to square off against the Mauldin Mavericks at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Easley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.6 runs per game this season.

Mauldin will be up against a hot Easley squad: the team just extended their winning streak to three. Everything went Easley's way against Greenville on Friday as Easley made off with an 11-1 win. The Green Wave might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matchups by eight runs or more this season.

Trey Sutton spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on four hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024.

At the plate, Aaron Tolbert was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Easley's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 4-5 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Sears, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.

Easley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .519 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Mauldin had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 3.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 6-2.

Mauldin picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 6-8. As for Easley, their win bumped their record up to 8-5.

Easley came out on top in a nail-biter against Mauldin when the teams last played back in April of 2017, sneaking past 5-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for Easley since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
