Wright City has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge The Southern Boone Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Wright City will be strutting in after a victory while Southern Boone will be coming in after a defeat.
After only six points in their last matchup, Wright City made sure to put some points up on the board against Louisiana last Thursday. Wright City was the clear victor by a 52-28 margin over Louisiana. The result was nothing new for Wright City, who have now won four contests by 20 points or more so far this season.
Wright City relied on the efforts of Duan Mcroberts, who rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns on only eight carries, and Joey Gendron, who threw for 163 yards and three touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Kayden Allison also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, Southern Boone unfortunately witnessed the end of their seven-game winning streak on Friday. They were beaten by Blair Oaks 62-28. While losing is never fun, Southern Boone can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Missouri football rankings (they are ranked 77th, while Blair Oaks is ranked 15th).
The losing side was boosted by Brady Dapkus, who picked up 155 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Dapkus was no stranger to the big play, lighting up the secondary with a catch that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Austin Evans, who threw for 231 yards and four touchdowns.
Wright City's victory bumped their record up to 6-3. As for Southern Boone, their loss dropped their record down to 7-2.
Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wright City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 230.7 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Southern Boone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 179 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Wright City was dealt a bruising 55-14 loss at the hands of Southern Boone in their previous matchup back in October of 2018. Thankfully for Wright City, Colby Phillips (who rushed for 174 yards and four touchdowns on only 11 carries) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
