Holy Cross and John Paul II are an even 4-4 against one another since November of 2014, but not for long. The Holy Cross Knights will head out on the road to square off against the John Paul II Guardians at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Holy Cross has four straight wins, John Paul II has ten straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Last Tuesday, Holy Cross didn't have too much breathing room in their contest against Texas School for the Deaf, but they still walked away with a 43-37 victory.
Holy Cross can attribute much of their success to Jenna Arugello, who scored 11 points, and Emma Garcia, who scored 16 points. That's the first time this season that Garcia scored 15 or more points.
The Guardians suffered their biggest defeat since November 30, 2023 on Tuesday. They ended up on the wrong side of a tough 53-33 walloping at the hands of the Centurions.
Holy Cross is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. As for the Guardians, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-10.
Holy Cross barely slipped by John Paul II in their previous meeting back in January of 2022, winning 37-36. The rematch might be a little tougher for Holy Cross since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
