The Jackson Generals on the road again on Tuesday and play against the Mourning Sharks at 5:00 p.m. on January 16th. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Thursday, Jackson came up short against Miami Beach and fell 58-50. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Jackson in their matchups with Miami Beach: they've now lost three in a row.
Jackson's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Leonard Clark, who scored 16 points along with two steals, and Jaedan Branton who scored 20 points. Branton continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last four games he's played. Jordany Fils-Aime was another key contributor, scoring four points along with ten rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mourning also suffered a loss in their last game, but this one to Jackson by a score of 63-54.
Despite the defeat, Mourning got a solid performance out of Alvintino Charles, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Charles hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for four straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Omar Pigott, who scored 12 points.
Jackson's defeat dropped their record down to 8-6. As for Mourning, they bumped their record down to 2-6 with that loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Tuesday's matchup is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Jackson have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 30.5% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Mourning struggles in that department as they've drained 42% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Jackson was able to grind out a solid win over Mourning in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, winning 63-54. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Charles, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds. Now that he's got a second chance to win this matchup, will Jackson still be able to contain him? There's only one way to find out.
