The Bishop McGuinness Villains stacked a 12th blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Friday. They claimed a resounding 71-11 win over College Prep & Leadership Academy at home. The win was familiar territory for Bishop McGuinness who now have four in a row.
Bishop McGuinness was led to victory by Kiersten Varner and Adelaide Jernigan. Varner scored 17 points, while Jernigan scored 15 points along with three steals. Jernigan is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Laney Heafner, who scored six points along with two steals.
College Prep & Leadership Academy's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Melissa Massenat, who scored four points along with eight rebounds. Massenat has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, College Prep & Leadership Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bishop McGuinness' victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-16.
Bishop McGuinness will head out on the road to take on Bethany at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Bishop McGuinness knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four games -- so hopefully Bethany likes a good challenge. As for College Prep & Leadership Academy, they will head out on the road to challenge Thomasville at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Thomasville comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 24 points in their last 17 games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
