After both having extra time off, the Thompson Warriors and the Opelika Bulldogs will shake off the rust and duke it out at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, these teams will really light up the scoreboard.
Thompson is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Friday. They won a game that couldn't have been any closer, slipping by Central 35-34. Winning may never get old, but the Warriors sure are getting used to it with their fourth in a row.
Thompson found their leader in sophomore Urijah Casey, who rushed for 106 yards and one touchdown on only 13 carries. Casey's longest rush was for an impressive 53 yards, which helps to explain his lofty yards per carry total. Thompson also got help from Darion Moseley, who showed off his sure hands for 100 receiving yards.
Thompson was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 259 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Thompson didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off five passes before the game was over. Damonte Tabb led the group effort, picking up two of those interceptions all by himself. Chance Strown has been hot, having also posted six or more total tackles the last five times he's played.
Meanwhile, Opelika faced Auburn in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Bulldogs narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Tigers 31-28.
Thompson better keep an eye on CJ Johnson. He was instrumental in Opelika's win, rushing for 185 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Those 185 rushing yards gave Johnson a new career-high.
One reason for the win was Opelika's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Tremaine Thomas and Carson Riddle, who racked up four sacks between them. Xavier Thomas got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Opelika, racking up 13 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Johnson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Thompson's win bumped their record up to 10-3. As for Opelika, their victory bumped their record up to an identical 10-3.
Everything came up roses for Thompson against Opelika in their previous matchup back in August of 2023, as the team secured a 44-13 win. Do the Warriors have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Bulldogs turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
