Bunker Hill and the Blue Devils are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Bunker Hill Bears will head out on the road to face off against the Maiden Blue Devils at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Bunker Hill waltzed into their matchup on Friday with two straight wins but they left with three. They pulled ahead with a 49-48 photo finish over West Lincoln.
Damireona Burch was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 11 rebounds. That makes it three consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Bunker Hill's points. Another player making a difference was Megan Starnes, who scored six points along with ten rebounds and three blocks.
In what's become a running theme this season, Maiden gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They claimed a resounding 54-24 victory over West Caldwell at home. Given Maiden's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 258th, while the Warriors are ranked 543rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bunker Hill's victory bumped their record up to 6-14. As for Maiden, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine games, which provided a massive bump to their 11-8 record this season.
Bunker Hill took a serious blow against the Blue Devils when the teams last played back in January, falling 62-24. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Maiden's Khiara Culliver, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten rebounds.
