The Canajoharie Cougars will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Saratoga Central Catholic Saints at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Canajoharie's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. Everything went their way against Fort Plain as they made off with an 11-0 victory. The win continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Hilltoppers: they've now won five in a row.
Canajoharie let Cody Hyney and Nicholas Barlow run wild. Hyney scored two runs and stole three bases while going 2-for-3, while Barlow went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Brandon Memrick was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.
Meanwhile, Saratoga Central Catholic put another one in the bag on Monday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on Stillwater with a sharp 16-0 victory. That looming 16-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Saints yet this season.
Carson Moser made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 12 over four innings pitched. Those 12 strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with two RBI.
In other batting news, Ronan Rowe was incredible, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-2. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jason Pescetti, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Saratoga Central Catholic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .657. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stillwater only posted an OBP of .211.
Saratoga Central Catholic's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-0. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.6 runs over those games. As for Canajoharie, their win bumped their record up to 2-0.
Canajoharie was able to grind out a solid victory over Saratoga Central Catholic in their previous matchup back in April of 2022, winning 5-0. Will the Cougars repeat their success, or do the Saints have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
