Northwestern has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Northwestern was handed a three-point defeat in their last contest, but they sure didn't let that happen against the Cougars on Friday. Northwestern put the hurt on the Cougars with a sharp 63-43 victory. The score was close at the half, but Northwestern pulled away in the second half with 35 points.
Northwestern's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Mason Mitchell led the charge by dropping a double-double on 15 points and 12 rebounds. Mitchell continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Cj Broughton was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, South Pointe's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of Indian Land. South Pointe has not had much luck with the Warriors recently, as the team's come up short the last two times they've met.
Northwestern's victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 11-13. As for South Pointe, they dropped their record down to 8-16 with that defeat, which was their third straight at home.
Northwestern came up short against the Stallions when the teams last played back in January, falling 60-47. Can Northwestern avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
