The Sahuaro Cougars's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They fell just short of Flowing Wells by a score of 64-61. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Sahuaro has suffered yet this season.
Several Cougars players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Cassandra Coolidge, who scored 29 points along with six rebounds and two steals. That was a full 47.5% of Sahuaro's points, marking the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kristen Valdez, who scored 12 points along with nine rebounds and six steals.
Flowing Wells was led to victory by Nevaeh Urenda and Kayla Bailey. Urenda scored 14 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Bailey scored 21 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Bailey is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Alexa Mejia was another key contributor, scoring six points.
Sahuaro's defeat dropped their record down to 14-6. As for Flowing Wells, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season.
Sahuaro will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Pueblo at 7:00 p.m. Pueblo is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 63.3 points per game. As for Flowing Wells, they will head out on the road to take on Mountain View at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain View will be looking to keep their five-game home win streak alive.
