Basketball Game Preview: Northeastern Eagles vs. Currituck County Knights

The Northeastern Eagles will take on the Currituck County Knights at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

Northeastern is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering First Flight just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Nighthawks by a score of 54-52. The matchup marked the Eagles' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Northeastern might have lost, but man, Tyell Saunders was a machine: he posted 24 points in addition to six boards and five steals. The dominant performance also gave Saunders a new career-high in blocks (two). Jakeel Stallings was another key player, putting up two points along with nine assists and three steals.

Meanwhile, Currituck County came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against the Hornets by a score of 66-59.

Northeastern better keep an eye on Jamie Dance. He was instrumental in Currituck County's win, dropping a double-double on 24 points and ten rebounds. Dance's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Tristan Peterson, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and ten boards.

Currituck County smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 18 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 11 consecutive matchups.

Currituck County pushed their record up to 10-3 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 65.7 points per game. As for Northeastern, their defeat was their first of the season and makes their record 7-1.

Everything went Northeastern's way against Currituck County in their previous meeting back in February of 2024, as Northeastern made off with a 67-46 victory. Will Northeastern repeat their success, or does Currituck County have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
