The Plattsmouth Blue Devils will take on the Rock Port Blue Jays in a tournament on Friday. Plattsmouth is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.3 runs per game this season.
Plattsmouth fell victim to Beatrice and their airtight pitching crew on Thursday. They lost 10-0 to the Orangemen. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Blue Devils' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
Meanwhile, Rock Port came tearing into Thursday's game with four straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 5.8 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Indians a 15-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Blue Jays, who have now won four matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Case Millsap made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Millsap was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024.
In other batting news, Corbyn Jakub and Westyn Amthor did most of the damage at the plate: Jakub scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2, while Amthor went 1-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most RBI Amthor has posted since back in April of 2024. Tayden Cook was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Rock Port was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .556. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Rock Port's victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-2. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Plattsmouth, they moved to 6-4 with that loss, which also ended their three-game winning streak.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Plattsmouth has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.2 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Rock Port struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
