4A Foothills recap Nov. 7, 2012
Pueblo West extended the longest winning streak in 4A Foothills this week by beating Mesa Ridge, 44-20. This was the team's 10th consecutive win.
Palmer Ridge made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,565 from 8,027. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 20-13 victory over Pueblo Centennial last week.
Widefield's dynamic duo of Mario Sanabria and DQ Baker proved tough for Canon City to stop, as they were the top passer and receiver in the league this week. Sanabria threw for 183 yards and two touchdowns and Baker had 59 yards receiving. Eugene Sanabria helped Widefield's passing attack out by catching three balls for 40 yards.
Derek Jackson was the most productive running back in the league this week. He ran for 317 yards on 33 carries as Pueblo West fell to the Tigers. Teammate Zac Drury added to the ground attack by rushing for 56 yards.
Widefield's Sanabria and Anthony Saunders have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Sanabria has thrown for 1634 yards this season, while Saunders, a 6-foot-1 receiver, has 27 catches for 418 yards. Jackson from Monte Pinkerton's team leads the league in rushing with 2463 yards.
The Grizzlies' Tremell Stanley is a mere 48 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season. Stanley has rushed for 952 yards on 163 carries so far this year.
Cheyenne Mountain led 4A Foothills in scoring this week after putting up 62 points on Pueblo South.
