I recently traveled to Hopkins, Minnesota, just outside Minneapolis to honor the 16th ranked boys high-school basketball team in the nation. The event went down this past Monday, May 7th at 9:00 AM in their magnificent three court basketball gymnasium. The entire school was on hand to commemorate the Royals for their outstanding basketball season.
The Royals this year dominated the opposition with a 26-2 Overall Record and a 8-0 League Record. The Royals really excelled on offense, where they scored an average of 82 points a game, the third highest total in the country. The team was lead by 6'4" standout senior Blake Hoffarber. You may remember Blake as the 2005 ESPY award winner for his lay down shot at the end of regulation to win the 2005 Minnesota State Championships.
On hand at the event were Max Preps representative Larry Merx and Sergeant Jesse Howard from the Minnesota National Guard. Larry Merx gave a tremendous account of the team's 2007 performance much to the chagrin of the 2,000+ student body on hand and Sergeant Howard presented Coach Ken Novak with the Max Preps Tour of Champions Trophy.
All in all, it was an all-star event for an all-star team. It was an honor to award the team for their tremendous season and we look forward to revisiting the team next year.
Special thanks to Dan Johnson for hosting a tremendous event.
The Ambassador,
Peter DeRogatis
