The West Wendover Wolverines won the last time they faced the Battle Mountain Longhorns, and things went their way on Tuesday too. West Wendover snuck past Battle Mountain with a 38-32 win.
West Wendover's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Lesly Tovar, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds and six steals. Tovar hasn't dropped below three steals for 15 straight games. Another player making a difference was Priscila Simental, who scored eight points along with five rebounds and four steals.
Battle Mountain's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lisette Haney, who scored eight points along with two steals. Stevlana Martinez was another key contributor, scoring four points along with five rebounds and two steals.
West Wendover's win bumped their record up to 12-8. As for Battle Mountain, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Wendover will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against Sierra Lutheran at 6:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Hopefully Sierra Lutheran focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 25 on Tuesday. As for Battle Mountain, they will head out on the road to challenge Silver Stage at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Silver Stage is coming into the contest with four straight losses at home, meaning Battle Mountain will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
