3A Region III District 22 recap Oct. 23, 2012
Coldspring-Oakhurst moved up to 139 from 194 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in 3A Region III District 22. The Trojans were able to make move up by topping Hargrave 60-21.
Coldspring-Oakhurst extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating the Falcons, 60-21. The victory was the fourth in a row for the team.
Hargrave's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Preston Townley threw for 261 and one touchdown and Chase Harrell had 147 yards receiving. On the ground Michael Longoria chipped in 78 yards. Darian Gray helped Hargrave's passing attack out by catching eight balls for 85 yards.
Mike McEachern's team's Townley and Cole Harrell have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. Townley has thrown for 1988 yards this season, while Harrell, a 6-foot-0 receiver, has 26 catches for 587 yards. Brandon Foster from Cleveland leads the league in rushing with 459 yards.
Going into this week's game against Shepherd, the Falcons' Townley needs 12 passing yards to surpass 2,000 on the season.
A big matchup in 3A Region III District 22 this week will be when the Pirates take on Hargrave. At the moment, Shepherd is in fourth, while the Falcons are in third.
