The Westover Patriots fought the good fight in their overtime game against the Cairo Syrupmakers on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Syrupmakers by a score of 77-74. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (70), Westover still had to take the loss.
Despite the loss, Westover still got an impressive performance from Greg Williams, who dropped a double-double on 25 points and ten rebounds. Williams is trending in the right direction, as he's improved his point production for three games straight. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryson Carter, who scored 12 points along with two steals.
Keshen Spence continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines for Cairo, almost dropping a double-double on 39 points and nine rebounds. Spence is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 16 or more in the last six games he's played. Another player making a difference was Davion Tarver, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Westover's loss dropped their record down to 12-9. As for Cairo, their victory was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-8.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Westover will square off against the Greenwave at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Terrell County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully the Patriots like a good challenge. As for Cairo, they will head out on the road to square off against the Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. One thing working in Shaw's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last five matchups.
