After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Millbury, Advanced Math & Science Academy was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. Everything went their way against the Burncoat Patriots as they made off with an 11-5 win. With that victory, the Eagles brought their scoring average up to 6.4 runs per game.
Drew Laidley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Laidley was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI.
In other batting news, Advanced Math & Science Academy got a massive performance out of Liam Thornley, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs Thornley has posted since back in March. Chuck Hammel was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one triple, two RBI, and one run.
Advanced Math & Science Academy's win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 10-4. As for Burncoat, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-10.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Advanced Math & Science Academy will take on Bay Path RVT at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Minutemen's pitching crew has only allowed 3.6 runs per game this season, so the Eagles' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Burncoat, they will challenge Assabet Valley RVT at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
