Baseball Recap: Canajoharie Now 10-2 over Last 12 Games

With a playoff win on the line, Canajoharie rose to the challenge on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Oppenheim-Ephratah Hawks with a sharp 8-1 victory. Considering the Cougars have won eight matches by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Canajoharie got a massive performance out of Cody Hyney, who went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases Hyney has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicholas Barlow, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run.

Canajoharie was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .318 or higher in three consecutive games.

Canajoharie is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.1 runs on average over those games. As for Oppenheim-Ephratah, their defeat was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Canajoharie will take on Granville at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. The Golden Horde will roll in looking for their 12th straight victory, something the Cougars surely won't give up without a fight. Oppenheim-Ephratah does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
