If the Boulder Panthers were feeling good off their 70-41 takedown of the Mountain Range Mustangs last Tuesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Boulder fell 54-43 to Fossil Ridge on Friday. It was the first time this season that Boulder let down their fans at home.
When it comes to explaining why Boulder lost, one person who can't be blamed is Megan Matthews. Despite the final result, she scored 21 points along with five rebounds and four steals. Matthews continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last four games she's played.
Boulder struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Fossil Ridge posted 14 assists.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Fossil Ridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Carmen Arkin, who scored 15 points along with three steals. Arkin is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last three games she's played. Lily Wale was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with six rebounds and three steals.
Boulder's defeat ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-6. As for Fossil Ridge, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Boulder will head out on the road to challenge Fort Collins at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Fort Collins is coming into the game hot, having won their last four games. Fossil Ridge won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Castle View at 12:30 p.m. on January 13th. Hopefully Castle View focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 12 on Thursday.
