Softball Recap: Tombstone Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Tombstone blew Morenci out of the water the last time the pair played, but on Monday Morenci got their revenge. Tombstone fell just short of Morenci by a score of 15-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Yellow Jackets have suffered since March 22, 2024.

Bria Gross put in work while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over six innings while giving up four earned (and three unearned) runs off nine hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-5 with one home run and two RBI.

In other batting news, Liliana Garcia and Bella Lopez did some serious damage despite the final result: Garcia went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one triple, and one stolen base, while Lopez scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Those four RBI gave Garcia a new career-high. Hayden Dobbins was another key player, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Tombstone's defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 7-10. As for Morenci, with the victory, they broke their three-game losing streak and moved their record to 8-6.
