Football Game Preview: Southside Panthers vs. Wilcox Central Jaguars

The Southside Panthers will venture away from home to face off against the Wilcox Central Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Southside has seven straight wins, Wilcox Central has eight straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

It was a proper cat-fight when Southside faced off against Sumter Central on Thursday. The Panthers blew past the Jaguars 66-0. Considering the Panthers have won six matchups by more than 43 points this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

It was another big night for Kole Moody, who threw for 375 yards and five touchdowns while completing 87.5% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in passer rating (166.7). Southside's leading receiver Cedrick Simmons was Moody's top target yet again, picking up 148 receiving yards and one score.

Southside was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 255 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Another reason for the win was Southside's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for nine sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Michael Hosea and Toriano Grayson, who racked up four sacks between them. Grayson also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with six. Camarion Allen got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Wilcox Central played a tough game on Thursday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They had to suffer through a 46-14 loss at the hands of Greensboro. The Jaguars were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 26-0.

Southside's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Wilcox Central, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Everything came up roses for Southside against Wilcox Central in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, as the squad secured a 62-6 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Panthers since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
