Randolph extended their losing streak to four on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 2-6 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-4 heartbreaker at the hands of the Forestville Central Hornets. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.
Aliza Hind spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on six hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Isabella Syracuse made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. Another player making a difference was Ryanne Bushey, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.
As for Forestville Central, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 4-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 9.3 runs this season.
On Forestville Central's side, Megan Gruber made a splash while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. Gruber has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Emily Lilllie was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. Carilene Sliwa was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs.
Coming up, Randolph will take on Chautauqua Lake at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles' pitching crew has only allowed two runs per game this season, so the Cardinals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Forestville Central, they will face off against Silver Creek at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The Hornets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Black Knights have averaged an impressive 7.3 runs per game this season.
