The Cristo Rey Monarchs will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Academy for Innovative Education Aviators at 4:00 p.m. on February 2nd. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
Two weeks ago, Cristo Rey had to suffer through a rough 74-33 loss at the hands of the Sharks. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Cristo Rey has scored all season.
Meanwhile, Academy for Innovative Education's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They were the victim of a tough 64-42 defeat at the hands of Downtown Doral. Academy for Innovative Education was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-16.
Despite their defeat, Academy for Innovative Education saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Matthew Johnson, who scored 12 points, was perhaps the best of all. Jayar Thompson was another key contributor, scoring eight points.
Cristo Rey dropped their record down to 0-5 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Academy for Innovative Education, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 2-10 record this season.
Cristo Rey suffered a grim 56-34 defeat to the Aviators when the teams last played back in December of 2023. Can Cristo Rey avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
