The El Camino Wildcats had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.5 points), and they went ahead and made it three on Saturday. They were the clear victor by a 57-37 margin over Oceanside. Given El Camino's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 179th, while Oceanside is ranked 641st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
El Camino's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Shawn Sidiqi led the charge by scoring 14 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sidiqi has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Isaiah Pomare, who scored 14 points.
El Camino is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 11-8 record this season. As for Oceanside, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-11.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. El Camino will take on La Costa Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Oceanside, they will be playing at home against Mission Vista at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Mission Vista knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matches -- so hopefully Oceanside likes a good challenge.
