Albuquerque Academy extended their winning streak to five on Saturday, bumping their season record up to 14-9 in the process. They had just enough and edged out the Rio Grande Ravens 15-13. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Chargers have posted since April 2nd.
Melissa Purcella made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and three unearned) runs off four hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Brooklynn Dominguez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with four runs, one triple, and one double. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2024. Bella Swanson was another key player, going 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.
Albuquerque Academy hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Rio Grande struck out six times.
As for Rio Grande, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-15. Even if they couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
On Rio Grande's side, Jenessa Purcella led a balanced group of hitters, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ceanna Sanchez, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Albuquerque Academy wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next game, a 14-2 win against Bernalillo on the 29th. As for Rio Grande, they have also already played their next contest, a 21-6 loss against Hope Christian on the 28th.
