Sieana Soltero was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gloriann Blanco, who scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. Christina Martinez was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Horizon Honors faced Mohave Accelerated in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Horizon Honors walked away with a 12-8 victory over Mohave Accelerated. Horizon Honors' win was all the more impressive since the Patriots were averaging only 2.54 runs allowed on the season.
Josie Barden was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. Isabelle Arellano also deserves some recognition as she launched her first home run of the season.
Horizon Honors always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mohave Accelerated only posted an OBP of .371.
Horizon Honors' victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 7-0. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 15.8 runs over those games. As for Heritage Academy, their record is now 11-1.
Wednesday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Heritage Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .572. However, it's not like Horizon Honors struggles in that department as they've averaged .640. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Heritage Academy skirted past Horizon Honors 10-9 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for Heritage Academy since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
