Jocelyn Cushard made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one run and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Plainfield East got a great performance from Maya Patel as she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaleigh Cawthon, who got on base in three of her five plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Avery Welsh, who went 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
Plainfield East kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bolingbrook only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Oswego East was not the first on the board on Monday, but they got there more often. They came out on top against Plainfield South by a score of 8-3.
Olivia Owles was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Katie Maday was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs.
Oswego East is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-8 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.6 runs on average over those games. As for Plainfield East, their record is now 13-7.
Oswego East's hitters will have their work cut out for them on Wednesday. Plainfield East has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8 strikeouts per game. It's a different story for Oswego East, though, as they've been averaging only 3.6 strikeouts. Will Plainfield East keep running through batters, or will the Wolves buck the trend?
Plainfield East was able to grind out a solid win over Oswego East in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 10-7. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bengals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
