Athens extended the longest winning streak in Northern Tier - Large this week by beating Wyalusing Valley Area, 49-6. The win marks seventh in a row for the the Wildcats.
The Rams made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 13,486 from 14,040. The advance stemmed from a 49-6 victory over Wyalusing Valley Area last week.
Tyler Birdsall was the most productive running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 142 yards as Athens fell to Troy. Teammate Zach Sheppeck added to the ground attack by rushing for 18 yards.
Jed Wright put up the best numbers through the air as the Trojans defeated the Panthers. He finished with three completions for 76 yards and two touchdowns. Wright's favorite target this week was Darton Harwick, who caught one pass for 36 yards.
Groover was the best wideout in the league this week as North Penn lost to Troy. Groover tallied three receptions for 56 yards. Devin Remley helped North Penn's passing attack out by catching two balls for 32 yards.
Tom Dickinson's team's Taylor Hillson and Sam Bohnert have formed a dynamic duo this season, leading Northern Tier - Large in both passing and receiving yards. Hillson has thrown for 1239 yards this season, while Bohnert, a 6-foot-3 receiver, has 21 catches for 434 yards. Jack Young's team's Birdsall leads the league in rushing yards with 982.
The Wildcats' Birdsall is a mere 18 yards away from breaking the 1,000-rushing-yards mark for the season.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Towanda takes on Wellsboro. The Knights are currently in sixth, while the Hornets are in third.
