The Hemingway Tigers can finally bid farewell to their six-game losing streak thanks to their game on Wednesday. They walked away with a 52-41 win over Lamar. That 52-41 margin sets a new team best for Hemingway this season.
It was another big night for Omarion Burgess, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Romance Hanna was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with three steals.
Lamar's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of NyShaun "Shaun" Quillen, who scored eight points along with five rebounds, and Jacari Mitchell who scored five points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Xavies "Zay" Tedder, who scored eight points.
Hemingway's victory ended a ten-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 2-13. As for Lamar, their loss was their 17th straight on the road dating back to last season, which bumped their record down to 1-10.
Hemingway will take on Berry at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Lamar, they will be playing at home against East Clarendon at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (East Clarendon is ranked 285th, while Lamar is ranked 284th).
