It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Chesterton had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 11-9 victory over the Valparaiso Vikings. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Trojans have posted since April 26th.
Hannah Florian made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 12 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Jillienne Pittman was incredible, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April. Another player making a difference was Oliva Milton, who went 3-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
The victory made it two in a row for Chesterton and bumps their season record up to 12-11. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.0 runs over those games. As for Valparaiso, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 13-17.
As of now, neither Chesterton nor the Vikings have any future games scheduled.
