There wasn't a ton of movement in the power rankings this week, but there was certainly enough to keep things interesting. We'll tackle that and more in this week's report.
Can't Touch This
Kearney's 28 - 6 win over Platte County last week had a lot to do with the leadership of senior Patrick Connery. Connery rushed for 250 yards and two touchdowns. In fact, our algorithms singled out Connery as one of the top players in the power rankings for the week.
This Week's Big Showdown
One of last week's main attractions was the confrontation between Blue Valley and Blue Valley North, 7th and 10th in the power rankings, respectively. Blue Valley took its game by a score of 31 - 20. One major factor in the win was the play of senior Eric Olson, who earned two touchdowns and 170 yards rushing the ball.
Movin on Up
Paola was the better team in every quarter against Fort Scott last week and consequently the better team overall. The final score between Paola and Fort Scott was a 42 - 0 blowout in Paola's favor. Paola made sure to walk the walk to justify being talked up as the big favorite. The success catapulted it 16 spots up the power rankings, enough to make it the biggest riser of the week.
No Stoppin 'Em
The match between North and Olathe North last week put some strain on the scoreboard; in fact, with a total of 82 final points, it was the highest scoring contest in the power rankings for the week. Olathe North took its game against North by a confident 55 - 27 score. Olathe North had two big standouts, as senior Daymonn Sanchez` ran for 164 yards and also punched in three touchdowns, while sophomore Arland Bruce iv rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns.
