The Bennett Clippers waltzed into their match on Monday with four straight wins but they left with five. They came out on top against Arcadia by a score of 74-65. Having run the score up that high, both teams might be doing some extra defensive drills very soon.
Several Firebirds players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Ryheim Pettit, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 18 rebounds. Pettit has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Jordan Cropper was another key contributor, scoring 22 points along with five rebounds.
Bennett's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Arcadia, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bennett will square off against Parkside at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Arcadia won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Chincoteague at 7:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Chincoteague will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Virginia Rankings (they are ranked 332nd, while Arcadia is ranked 155th).
