On the hitting side, North Davidson let Heidi Barker and Katelyn Sears run wild. Barker scored a run while going 4-for-4, while Sears scored four runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those four runs gave Sears a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Paisley Dorton, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
North Davidson was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 9-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Oak Grove came tearing into Friday's game with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They were the clear victors by a 16-0 margin over the Blue Comets. Give the Grizzlies' pitching crew some credit: that's the team's third straight shutout.
Kate Bertschi made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one run.
In other batting news, Chloe Smith was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Lauren Sexton was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.
Oak Grove's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-5. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for North Davidson, their victory bumped their record up to 12-5.
Both North Davidson and Oak Grove just can't seem to miss. The Black Knights have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Oak Grove struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.3 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
North Davidson couldn't quite finish off Oak Grove when the teams last played back in March and fell 3-1. Will the Black Knights have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
