Father McGivney Catholic got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Chase Jansen out in front who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Jansen continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Nolan Keller, who scored 17 points.
Maryville Christian's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Cade King, who scored 12 points. Those 12 points set a new season-high mark for him. Levi Gray was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Maryville Christian struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Father McGivney Catholic pulled down 11 offensive rebounds.
Father McGivney Catholic's victory bumped their record up to 4-5. As for Maryville Christian, their defeat was their fifth straight at home, which bumped their record down to 1-7.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Father McGivney Catholic will challenge Althoff Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Althoff Catholic's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests. As for Maryville Christian, they will head out on the road to face off against Marquette Catholic at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Marquette Catholic presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Maryville Christian in Illinois (Marquette Catholic is ranked 156th, while Maryville Christian is ranked 739th).
