The Mathews Blue Devils won the last time they faced the Carver College and Career Academy Wolverines, and things went their way on Tuesday too. Mathews snuck past the Wolverines with a 33-28 victory.
Despite the defeat, Carver College and Career Academy had strong showings from Ianaisia Washington, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and 18 rebounds, and AJ Sykes, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten steals. Washington is crushing the block category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Venus Jenkins, who scored no points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Mathews' win ended a seven-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-15. As for Carver College and Career Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mathews will take on the Lions at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Carver College and Career Academy, they will head out on the road to square off against the Royal Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. King & Queen Central is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
