Softball Recap: Newman Extends Winning Streak to Seven

Newman entered their tilt with South Plaquemines on Friday with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They never let the Hurricanes get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Greenies might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matchups by six runs or more this season.

Maryn Huber made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Alyse Dulitz and Caroline Kenter did most of the damage at the plate: Dulitz scored two runs and stole four bases while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances, while Kenter got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, four RBI, and one double. Those four RBI gave Kenter a new career-high. Sydney Gallagher was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in both of her plate appearances.

Newman hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in ten consecutive games.

Newman pushed their record up to 13-7 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games. As for South Plaquemines, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-9 record this season.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Newman is set to face off against their familiar foe Cohen at 11:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, South Plaquemines will take on rival St. Mary's Academy at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday.
