Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons put the finishing touches on their sixth blowout victory of the season on Tuesday. They breezed by Canajoharie at home to the tune of 50-22. Given Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 270th, while Canajoharie is ranked 547th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, even though Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville scored an imposing 60 points on Tuesday, Mayfield still came out on top. Mayfield took their matchup against Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville 72-60. Mayfield pushed the score to 60-38 by the end of the third, a deficit Oppenheim-Ephratah/St. Johnsville cut but never quite recovered from.
Cloey Dopp and Brianna Iannuzzi were among the main playmakers for Mayfield as the former scored 27 points along with seven assists and five steals and the latter scored 26 points along with two steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Iannuzzi has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Abigail Chest, who scored six points along with seven rebounds and two steals.
Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons' victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 54.0 points per game. As for Mayfield, they now have a winning record of 10-9.
Everything came up roses for Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons against Mayfield in their previous meeting back in December of 2023 as the squad secured a 75-43 victory.
