The Sandia Matadors''s game last Friday was a tough loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They managed a 10-6 win over Cibola. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Sandia also won the last time the pair played back in October of 2022.
Cruz Rivera threw for 185 yards on 18 of 32 attempts. Jacob Adcox was his top target, picking up 107 receiving yards. On the ground, Cyruize Galbreath rushed for 34 yards.
The team lost despite holding Sandia to a paltry no rushing yards and no passing yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Cibola's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out six times before it was all said and done. Sandia's QB won't forget Hayes Baum anytime soon given Baum sacked him six times.
Sandia's win was their fifth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 8-2. That said, the team wasn't facing the toughest opposition over that stretch, as it included 0-10 Cibola and 2-8 Manzano (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 32% over those games). As for Cibola, they still haven't won a game yet this season and fell to 0-10.
Sandia does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Cibola also has no future games currently scheduled.
