Softball Recap: Le Grand Makes It Eight in a Row on the Road

Le Grand waltzed into their match on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They put the hurt on the Gustine Reds with a sharp 17-0 win. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 15 contests by six runs or more this season.

Ava Avila made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 22 consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Crystal Manzo, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, two runs, and one triple. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Elisa Angel was another key player, going 2-for-5 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.

Le Grand was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 12-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Le Grand's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Gustine, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-15 record this season.
