Fayetteville has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Comer Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Fayetteville will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Alabama Rankings (they are ranked 366th, while Comer is ranked 112th).
Last Thursday, Fayetteville came up short against Woodland and fell 35-27.
Cameron Hammonds put forth a good effort for the losing side as he rushed for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Hammonds is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played.
Meanwhile, Comer put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Central of Coosa County 59-7 on the road. The result was nothing new for Comer, who have now won eight contests by 22 points or more so far this season.
Kamore Harris and Devin L. Harvey were among the main playmakers for Comer as the former rushed for 84 yards and two touchdowns and the latter gained 180 total yards and three touchdowns. Harris hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for three straight games.
Fayetteville's loss dropped their record down to 2-6. As for Comer, their victory was their ninth straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 9-0.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Friday's contest: Fayetteville has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 236.1 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Comer struggles in that department as they've been even better at 258.2 per game. It's looking like Friday's game might have some serious battles in the trenches.
Fayetteville was dealt a bruising 47-6 defeat at the hands of Comer when the teams last played back in October of 2022. Can Fayetteville avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
