Sacopee Valley has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against The Old Orchard Beach Seagulls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Saturday, Sacopee Valley faced Boothbay in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Sacopee Valley beat Boothbay by the very same score they won with last week: 22-20. The score was all tied up 14-14 at the break, but Sacopee Valley was the better team in the second half.
Sacopee Valley can attribute much of their success to Dylan Capano, who picked up 21 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Capano hasn't dropped below sixsolo tackles for six straight games. Brady Metcalf also helped out with an impressive 97 receiving yards.
Another reason for the win was Sacopee Valley's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for ten sacks. It was a group effort, with three picking up two apiece.
Meanwhile, Old Orchard Beach put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They claimed a resounding 66-0 victory over Mount View on the road. Fans of Old Orchard Beach have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season ended as a blowout.
Sacopee Valley's victory was their fourth straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.5 points per game. As for Old Orchard Beach, their win bumped their record up to 8-0.
Sacopee Valley was taken down by Old Orchard Beach 82-0 in their previous matchup back in September. Can Sacopee Valley avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
