Nash Central and Bunn are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2015, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will challenge the Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Nash Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.
Fans were treated to a battle of the Bulldogs on Monday. Nash Central fell just short of Princeton by a score of 7-6. Nash Central has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
GRACYN KING was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits. KING was also big at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in two of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, RYLEE BREWER was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4. HALEY FRAZIER was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Bunn entered their tilt with Roanoke Rapids on Tuesday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They came within a single run of losing the streak, but they secured a 4-3 W against the Yellowjackets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Wildcats have posted against the Yellowjackets since April 6, 2021.
Emily Baez spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Madeline Bryson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Brooke Harrah, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Bunn pushed their record up to 11-3 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games. As for Nash Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-9.
Wednesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Nash Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .359. However, it's not like Bunn struggles in that department as they've averaged .421. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Nash Central suffered a grim 17-2 defeat to Bunn when the teams last played back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
