Last Monday, Gainesville was able to grind out a solid win over Osbourn, taking the game 61-48. Given Gainesville's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 95th, while Osbourn is ranked 353rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Unity Reed can finally bid farewell to their eight-game losing streak thanks to their game on Tuesday. They secured a 60-55 W over Osbourn Park. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Unity Reed found their leader in underclassman Russell Robinson, who scored 21 points along with seven steals and five assists. Zayden Nichols was another key contributor, scoring 15 points along with three steals.
Gainesville is on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last 11 matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 12-6 record this season. As for Unity Reed, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-14.
Gainesville took their victory against Unity Reed in their previous matchup on January 2nd by a conclusive 78-54. The rematch might be a little tougher for Gainesville since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
