Basic made up a huge gap compared to their last game against Coronado, but they still couldn't quite topple them. The Wolves fell just short of the Cougars by a score of 4-2 on Monday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Wolves have suffered against the Cougars since May 8, 2019.
Mia Frias was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with one stolen base and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Natalee Ramos, who went 3-for-4 with one run.
Meanwhile, Palo Verde faced Green Valley in a battle between two of the state's top teams two weeks ago. The Panthers blew past the Gators 14-4. Fans of the Panthers have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 6+ runs.
Haley Kearnes spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on four hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Taylor Johns was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run and three RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Samantha Williams, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Palo Verde hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in eight consecutive games dating back to last season.
Basic's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Palo Verde, their win bumped their record up to 5-0.
