The Fort Wayne HomeSchool Hawks waltzed into their matchup on Saturday with five straight wins but they left with six. They walked away with a 78-69 win over Kokomo HomeSchool. Given Fort Wayne HomeSchool's advantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Kokomo HomeSchool is ranked 162nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Fort Wayne HomeSchool's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Sam Newcomer led the charge by scoring 28 points along with six rebounds and two blocks. The team also got some help courtesy of Dominic Graber, who scored 31 points along with five rebounds.
Fort Wayne HomeSchool's win bumped their record up to 18-2. As for Kokomo HomeSchool, their defeat ended an 11-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 13-11.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fort Wayne HomeSchool on the road again on Tuesday and play against Mishawaka HomeSchool W at 7:30 p.m. on January 16th. Hopefully Mishawaka HomeSchool W focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 back in December of 2023. Kokomo HomeSchool will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Anderson HomeSchool at 2:00 p.m. on January 27th.
