The Miami Christian Victors will square off against the St. Brendan Sabres at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. St. Brendan took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Miami Christian, who comes in off a win.
Miami Christian's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Monday. They blew past Coral Shores 24-0. Considering the Victors' hitters had been struggling lately, the high-scoring outing was a much-needed turnaround.
Daniela Marquez and Renata Silvas were a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Marquez pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Silvas struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). At bat, Marquez scored a run while going 3-for-5, while Silvas scored a run while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance also gave Marquez a new career-high in RBI (three).
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Romina Casillas, who went 3-for-4 with five RBI, three runs, and two doubles. Another player making a difference was Camila Holguin, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.
Meanwhile, St. Brendan came up short against Schoolhouse Prep on Monday, falling 10-3.
St. Brendan got a big performance out of Madisyn Llerandi, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Taylor Nielson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Even though they lost, St. Brendan was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .385. This was only their first loss (out of three games) when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Miami Christian's victory was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-2. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.0 run on average over those games. As for St. Brendan, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.
St. Brendan's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Miami Christian has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.3 hits per game. It's a different story for St. Brendan, though, as they've been averaging 8.8 hits. Given Miami Christian's sizable advantage in that area, St. Brendan will need to find a way to close that gap.
Miami Christian took their win against St. Brendan in their previous meeting back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 8-1. Will Miami Christian repeat their success, or does St. Brendan have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
