Timpanogos has gone 8-2 against Mountain View recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. The Timberwolves will be playing in front of their home fans against the Bruins at 7:00 p.m. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 974 yards in their previous games.
Timpanogos is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against Provo on Friday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Timberwolves were beaten by the Bulldogs 61-24. The defeat continues a trend for the Timberwolves in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost seven in a row.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Andrew Hillstead and Gehrig Orchard. Orchard had a great game and threw for 440 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 80% of his passes. Meanwhile, Hillstead was balling out in the loss, throwing for 399 yards and a pair of TDs, while also punching in one score on the ground.
Even if they lost, Timpanogos' defensive line still kept up the pressure with three sacks. Jesse King refused to say out of the backfield, picking up 1.5 sacks all by himself. He was another major factor on D, picking up 1.5 sacks, forcing one fumble, and making seven total tackles (4.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain View). They put the hurt on Uintah with a sharp 41-20 win on Friday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.
A big part of Mountain View's victory came down to the chemistry between Tate Johnson and his top target Hyrum Stafford. Johnson threw for 285 yards and three touchdowns while Stafford gained 133 total yards and three touchdowns. Stafford's longest rush was for an incredible 80 yards. Koa Giles was Johnson's top target, picking up 139 receiving yards and one score.
Mountain View didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off four passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Stafford and Carter Peterson.
Mountain View's win was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 3-3. The home victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 34.0 points over those games. As for Timpanogos, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday's game will pit two of the most dominant signal callers against one another: Hillstead and Johnson. Hillstead just won't slow down this season and has thrown 15 touchdowns while averaging 225.3 passing yards per game. Johnson has been a dominant force too and has thrown 15 touchdowns while averaging 222.2 passing yards per game.
Timpanogos beat Mountain View 34-24 when the teams last played back in September of 2024. Will the Timberwolves repeat their success, or do the Bruins have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
