Baseball Recap: St. Petersburg Gets the Win

On Monday, the St. Petersburg Green Devils were able to grind out a solid win over the South Fayette Lions, taking the game 11-6.

St. Petersburg got a massive performance out of Leo Smith, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Smith is becoming a predictor of St. Petersburg's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-8-1 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Danny Snyder, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

St. Petersburg was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in four consecutive contests.

St. Petersburg's victory bumped their record up to 4-9-1. As for South Fayette, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Looking ahead, St. Petersburg will challenge Buffalo Grove at 10:00 a.m. on Friday. As for South Fayette, a feisty cat fight will be fought as South Fayette Lions challenge Moon Area Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on March 24th. They are facing Moon Area at the right time seeing as Moon Area is stuck on a three-game losing streak.
